The Ranch

Our Home

Nestled at the watery basin of Henry Hagg Lake Rustic Rose Ranch is our quiet oasis. In 2020 during Covid, our family decided it was time to take the initiative and move out of the Portland metro suburbs. It was time to follow our dreams and heart and give up the city. We enjoy working on our land making beautiful gardens, spending time with all our animals, and living a quiet simple life.

Freya

Freya our die-hard powerhouse lady. She is a loving and faithful companion. Storytime on our Freya. When I was young and working with a trainer. My trainer had in her care some of the most beautiful unique horses I have ever been around. One of the horses was a beautiful pinto black and white Saddlebred horse named Cue. He was amazing. His beauty and sweet disposition inspired my lifetime love for the breed and anything with spots. Years later when I grew up and was about to move on to college my trainer moved Cue from one barn to another. She left behind his engraved nameplate. I took the plate and kept it for years in my hope chest as a keepsake. Fast forward decades later. I decided to purchase Freya knowing she was not papered. There was something inside of me that was just drawn to her. After we purchased her and got her home I reviewed her file. In her file was a genealogy report. I cried when I read it. Her father was Cue. I had dreamed of owning a horse like him my whole life and in an instant, I realized my dream came true. I had a piece of Cue, his beautiful daughter Freya. Today the plate is on the front of her stall and I added Daughter of Color on Cue.

Storm

Storm is our newest addition to the family. Storm is a mellow sweet boy of the older Saddlebred bloodlines. Storm was part of a large horse rescue where officials stepped in to help over fifty Saddlebreds. Sadly the elderly owner suffered from dementia and was not able to care for her horses. I believe this is every horse owner’s greatest fear and we are grateful to welcome this beautiful loving soul to our family. He is as beautiful as he is sweet.

Our Boys

Copper, Tucker, and Willie from left to right our pack of boys. Tucker is my heart and soul boy. Our first addition to our family, Tuck has been through it all with us. He is always by my side my constant companion. Tuck had severe separation anxiety and I was deeply concerned. In turn, this led to the second edition of Copper. I joke and say “My dog needed a therapy dog”. In truth, Copper has helped Tuck and he is our big loyal boy. He never sneaks off the property and will tattle when the other boys do. Our last addition is Wille. He is the baby of the pack and is the troublemaker. His collar tag says “roaming good boy” for a reason. Willie would happily spend his days outside hunting moles. sleeping in the sun, while patrolling the property from invaders. Airplanes and mail ladies are no exception to the rule of no trespassing.

Our Goats

Referred to as our babies Aster, Sweet Pea, and Poppy. I admit I did not want goats in my life. My husband insisted that they would be great at keeping our weedy pasture clean. I eventually agreed and welcomed the baby trio to the ranch. All three are mini Nigerians. Aster and Poppy are brother and sister. Sweet Pea was raised with them in a huge herd. Sweet Pea is the light of our eyes he is friendly, loving, and funny. The others are pretty aloof and still do not like pets. Their hilarious antics still make me laugh. They all have so much personality in such a small package.

Bun Buns

We have four rabbits. Buggy was the first then Velvet and surprise we then have Nermal then we took in Cinnamon. Velvet and her daughter Nermal live together and the two boys are separated. They love getting out of there big runs and playing in the rabbit yard I set up.
